In a Windows Environment you can easily run DNSCMD on your Domain controller to quickly output a list of FQDNs to IPs and you can list most of your infrastructure by name to port. You can easily use Excel to map the ports that have MAC addresses found in show mac address-table to the IPs that match the MAC addresses from show ip arpĪdd in that if you're in a domain you can get the dnz zone file and match the IPS. Next, type in the following command arp a You will now get a list of all the connected devices on your network along with their physical addresses Pretty nifty trick. When you ping, you will get a Request Timed Out all four times, but don’t worry. this spits out a list of IP addresses to MAC addresses to VLANs. If you subnet is 192.168.1.X with a mask of 255.255.255.0, then you would ping 192.168.1.255. Reboot the MR12 and interrupt the boot loader once more.
This will save you a TON of time, so long as you have an IP address configured on the switch for each VLAN that it contains for the local network there you can see what IPs in that network match what MAC addresses from the previous command. These subnets are also configured via Configure > Addressing & VLANs. 1) If it is getting its IP via DHCP server, check the address lease table, it will be in there 2) if not, if the AP has not been configured at all, and is not using DHCP, the default IP will be 192.168.1.245/255.255.255.0. However if you have portchannels/trunks you'll want to figure out where they connect to and check those devices again. This will show the MAC addresses to the ports, and is somewhat useful as you can use utilities to find the manufacturers, and you can get that info from the other devices individually.
